At least 12 inmates of Supual sub-divisional jail in Bihar were injured, two of them seriously, in a clash over watching the cricket match between India and Sri Lanka on Tuesday, official sources said.
The fight broke out when some prisoners were denied entry to a ward where the jail TV was being run on a battery due to power cut in the premises, the sources said.
The inmates, who were watching the match on the Doordarshan channel in their respective wards, rushed out and tried to enter one where the TV was being run on a battery.
But when the inmates of the ward where the TV was on denied them entry, a fight broke out in which at least 12 persons were injured, the sources said.
The jail staff with the help of local police separated the clashing prisoners and sent them to their respective wards.
The prisoners were, however, allowed to see the rest of the match and India's nail biting win when the power supply resumed, the sources said.
Two of the injured inmates were seriously wounded and have been admitted to the Sadar hospital, the sources said, adding others were sent to the jail hospital.
