December 03, 2010 16:20 IST

The resignation of rebel Congress Member of Parliament from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has been accepted, Speaker Meira Kumar announced in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Kumar said Reddy's resignation has been accepted with effect from November 29.

"I have to inform the House that I have received a letter dated November 29 from Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, an elected member from Kadapa parliamentary constituency of Andhra Pradesh, resigning from the membership of the Lok Sabha. I have accepted his resignation with effect from November 29," she said.

Amid a stand-off with the Congress leadership, 37-year-old Reddy had sent his resignation to the Speaker and announced his decision to quit the party, alleging that the Congress 'humiliated' his family and tried to drive a 'wedge' in it.

Jagan, son of late Andhra chief minister Y S R Reddy, had written a five-page 'open letter' to Congress president, Sonia Gandhi in which he gave reasons for his resignation.

His associates have indicated that he would soon announce the launch of his new party -- Youth Sramik Ryot Congress.
