Y S Vijaya Lakshmi, widow of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, was on Thursday unanimously elected as the leader of YSR Congress Legislature Party.

The legislators of Yuvajana Sramika Rytu Congress Party met in Hyderabad on Thursday and elected Pulivendula Member of Legislative Assembly Vijaya Lakshmi, mother of Kadapa Member of Parliament Jaganmohan Reddy and honorary president of the party, as their leader.

The strength of YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh Assembly rose to 17 following the victory of 15 party candidates in the recently concluded bypolls held for 18 Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat.

Earlier, the party had two MLAs including Vijaya Lakshmi.

The meeting of legislators passed several resolutions, one of them asked the Government to ensure adequate supply of quality seeds and fertilisers to farmers in the kharif season.

The meeting criticised the Congress government for 'failing' to draw a proper plan for kharif season, MLA Sobha Nagireddy told reporters after the meeting.

The MLAs later held a protest inside the Assembly premises denouncing 'vindictive' attitude against Jagan 'as per a conspiracy involving Congress and the Telugu Desam Party'. The legislators were removed from the site by the police.
