The Jammu and Kashmir assembly speaker has sought the opinion of the members of the privilege committee on the reply submitted by the former army chief, General (Retd) V K  Singh with regard to the privilege proceedings initiated against him.

The privilege committee had last week decided to ask the former army chief to appear in person before the committee on January 9 to explain his position with regard to the privilege motion pending against him in the house.

“I have forwarded Singh’s reply to the respective members of privilege committee and have asked them to submit their opinions within one week. The final decision over the issue will be taken after that,” speaker of the state assembly Mubarak Gul told a local news agency.

Gul said that the reply can be accessed by one and all and it has already been made public. “I have also forwarded his reply to the members of the privilege committee,” he added.

The decision will be taken on the basis of merit of the opinion of the committee and in light of the reply submitted by the former army chief, he added.

The former army chief in his reply to the speaker has pleaded drop of the breach of privilege proceedings against him. Gen Singh in his reply said, “I most respectfully point out that various quotes ascribed to me are inaccurate and incorrect to the extent of being misquotes.”
