A man who was suspected to have procured the weapon used to kill Mumbai-based journalist J Dey on Saturday surrendered in a court in Pithoragarh in connection with another case and was sent to judicial custody.

Ganesh Sorari alias Honey Dada surrendered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Champawat, in connection with a case of firing on a police team in 2007 filed against  im in Tanakpur police station, Superintendent of Police, Champawat, Anant S Takwale said.

Sorari was refused bail by the court and was sent to judicial custody in Lohaghat, he said.

The police was looking for Sorari in connection with the case under IPC section 307 after he allegedly opened fire on a police party when they had gone to Tanakpur area to investigate a case, the SP said.

Sorari came into the news recently when he was suspected to have procured the weapon used in the killing of Mumbai-based journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, who was shot dead on June 11 by motorcycle-borne persons allegedly with links to the underworld.

The accused was reportedly hiding in the interior area in Pithoragarh, the SP said.
