India and Israel have agreed to set up a Joint Working Group, which will be meeting towards the end of 2005, to identify institutions in both countries that can collaborate in scientific research.

The decision to set up the JWG was taken during a meeting between Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and his Israeli counterpart, Yisrael Katz.

Some of the areas outlined for emphasis are collaboration in the field of crop technology, micro irrigation, dairy, food processing and joint marketing of food products.

Pawar also visited several Kibbutzim and Moshavim (collective farms) to see techniques in vogue in Israel in the field of horticulture, fish breeding and genetic upgrading of cattle.

He also attended state ceremonies to commemorate the tenth anniversary of former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin.

Dozens of foreign dignitaries, including former US President Bill Clinton, his wife, Hillary Clinton, and US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice were present at the ceremonies.

Pawar is also slated to meet Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Vice Premier Shimon Peres during his four-day visit.
