A suspected agent of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence was arrested from an Internet cafe near Bhojubir locality of Varanasi while transmitting vital military and strategic documents to his operatives across the border, a senior police official said on Thursday.

Javed Akhtar, a native of Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by the special task force and police from the Internet cafe at 9.45 pm on Wednesday night and vital documents of military and strategic importance and other materials recovered from his possession, Senior Superintendent of Police Sujit Pandey told media persons in Varanasi.

The 48-year-old agent had received extensive training from the ISI operatives to carry out subversive and anti-national activities in India and visited Pakistan thrice and was well versed with the technological know-how required for collecting vital strategic information and its transmission to his operatives, he said.

The investigators have recovered vital documents like map of the Harish Chandra Atomic Centre in Allahabad, documents related to the purchase of T-90 tanks, details of air show at Bangalore, documents of plans to check militancy and movement of troops in Jalandhar last year, the SSP said.

The documents related to infrastructure like length of the under-construction bridge in Amritsar, under-construction project of railway track between Shankargarh (UP) to Satna (Madhya Pradesh), construction of railway track in Ballia district, electrification project between Jaunpur and Amethi and the purchase of land by the DRDO in Varanasi district were also seized from him, Pandey added.

Observing that the suspected agent had already done a lot of damage to the country's military and strategic planning, the SSP said investigators had recovered a mobile set, a Pakistani SIM card and three internet ID-cards, which the agent used for transmitting classified documents. He was already paid about Rs. three lakh for the task, he added.

Akhtar was staying in a rented accommodation in the cantonment area and used to change his residence to escape identification, the SSP said, adding that searches were being carried out to arrest his associates.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the suspected agent under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code on charges of his involvement in anti-national and subversive activities, he said.
