In two ceasefire violations in less than 24 hours, Pakistani security personnel last night fired on Indian forward posts in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir injuring two BSF jawans.
Firing rockets and using small arms fire, Pakistani rangers targeted BSF's border outpost on the International Border in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district around 7.30 pm. The two injured BSF jawans were evacuated to a hospital in Samba district.
Pakistan troops had opened indiscriminate firing on the forward posts along the Line of Control in Shahpur Kerni forward belt of the Poonch sector last night and it continued intermittently for few hours as Army troops also replied effectively.
A flag meeting was held at Kote Kuba BoP along the border in which commanding officer 193 Battalion of BSF, Neeraj Dubey and 12-Chenab Rangers Wing Commander Kesar took part.
Pakistan Rangers denied their involvement in firing on Indian posts.
They had fired on Indian forward posts along the IB in Kote Kuba BoP in Jammu sector on Sunday night thereby violating ceasefire between India and Pakistan applicable since 2003.
There has been an increase in ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pak border after the detection of a Pakistani tunnel in the Indian territory in Samba forward belt on July 28 and a subsequent protest lodged by the BSF over it with Pakistan Rangers on July 31.
A similar situation had developed in Jammu and Kashmir in the month of June this year in Poonch sector along the LoC when Pakistan violated the ceasefire five times by opening heavy small arms firing and rocket attacks on Indian posts in Poonch sector in which two jawans have been killed and four others injured.
There were five ceasefire violations between June 11 to June 16 this year along the LoC in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
Finally, the brigade commanders's flag meeting was held on June 23, 2012 at Chakan-Da-Bagh LoC point in Poonch sector to a bring halt to the Pakistan firing and peace along the border line and resumption of the cross-border trade and travel between PoK and Jammu and Kashmir.
Nearly 19 ceasefire violations have taken place this year followed by 51 cases in 2011, 44 cases of ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir were registered in 2010 and 28 were in 2009.
"All activities across the LoC are continuously monitored. Measures like strengthening of defences, deployment and redeployment of troops, infrastructure development and military modernisation are factored into our plans," officials said.
