In the backdrop of sting, Mamata slams opposition, 'section of media'

Facing the heat of a controversial sting operation, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the Opposition has formed a “nexus” to malign the Trinamool Congress ahead of the state assembly election.

Speaking at an election rally, Banerjee also said a “section of media” is with the Opposition parties and she will “expose” them later.

“We have done a lot of developmental work in the last four years. No other political party in the country has been able to usher in so much of development. But the Opposition can’t see that development. They are only campaigning to malign us,” Banerjee told an election rally at Kalchini.

“They have formed a nexus to malign the TMC. A section of media is also with them. I won’t name them now, but in future I’ll expose them,” she said.

Banerjee said she will seek justice from the people of Bengal. “We have full faith in them. The Opposition wants to divide West Bengal. But as long as I am alive, I won’t let them do that,” she said.

Her statement comes in the backdrop of the telecast of a sting video by a web portal purportedly showing some TMC leaders accepting bribe to help a fictitious private firm.

Stating that the Communist Party of India-Marxist, Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party are united against the TMC, she said, “Congress has sold their party to CPI-M and BJP. The CPI-M is now seeking the help of those who want to divide the hills so that they can win seats in plains. A party which has political ideology does not do this,” the chief minister said.

While listing out various developmental work her government has achieved, Banerjee said every section of the society has benefited from the schemes.
