Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said on Monday his ministry looked at implementing the Sachar committee recommendations as its top priority despite the fact that there were some "flaws" in the report.
The minister, who had recently invited criticism for his comments that the Sachar report "was not the Quran" and needs to be looked at with a critical eye, said his ministry was committed to put into effect all the "positive" aspects of the report as they were for the larger good.
Asked to comment on whether the Ranganath Mishra committee recommendations were being worked on for implementation, he said, "The ministry was giving priority to the Sachar recommendations, and efforts are being made to implement the very provident suggestions made by it."
Khurshid said the National Advisory Council has the report to which his ministry has also added its own suggestions, and views have also been placed before the Planning Commission, but added that several facts in the report were "incorrect".
"But we do not reject entire reports because of some errors. We have received many positive suggestions from it too... (Though) we have found some flaws in the report but anything which is for the good should not be rejected," he told reporters after meeting Surajit Mitra, who assumed charge as the new secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs in New Delhi.
Asked to comment on Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy's controversial article that has already raised hackles in the National Minorities Commission, Khurshid did not directly make a remark on the issue but said it was the responsibility of the government to make sure provocations do not disturb peace in the country.
