A Delhi court on Thursday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Indian Meteorological Department Director General Suresh Kumar Srivastava, against whom police have registered a case of sexual harassment.
According to the police, the complainant, a woman in her thirties, had accused Srivastava of 'threatening, coercing and pressuring' her for sexual favours.
He had offered to marry her, arrange a separate house, car and enough bank balance to lead a comfortable life, alleged the FIR filed in the R K Puram police station in Delhi.
But she got married to another person. Srivastava then allegedly began blackmailing her and threatened to reveal their relationship to her in-laws.
The complainant claimed that she gave into his demands fearing for her dignity and also to save her marriage as the accused allegedly threatened to have her husband sacked from his job.
Of late, in the absence of her family members, she alleged, he had even physically assaulted her at her residence in the city several times.
Additional Sessions Judge Aruna Suresh had on September 2 directed the police not to arrest Srivastava till a decision was made on his anticipatory bail plea.
