A former woman pilot with the Indian Air Force has approached the National Commission for Women complaining that her services were terminated improperly and seeking the help of the women's panel in fighting her case against the Force.

Prerana Chaturvedi, who joined the IAF in 1995 as a helicopter pilot, has earlier moved the Delhi High Court complaining that the elite force was denying her retirement benefits as she objected to her being grounded on medical terms through official channels.

In her complaint to the Commission, Prerana, who met NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas on Monday, claimed that she was terminated from the service in 2004 without granting any termination benefits like ex-service personnel card, records of previous service and her flying records.

NCW sources said the Commission would seek documents regarding employment policy from the Defence Ministry.

Seeking assistance from the women's panel, Prerana alleged that the IAF was indulging in delay tactics as their counsel did not appear three times when the case was listed for final disposal in the Delhi High Court.

Though she was declared unfit for flying in 2000 on medical grounds, she said in her representation to the NCW that she met all standards stipulated during her commissioing.

She said she was allowed to fly choppers for another year as IAF authorities felt that her performance was satisfactory.

But she claimed she was denied promotion to the next higher rank and declared fully unfit to fly on the basis of medical statistics.
