A local court on Wednesday deferred the hearing in a dowry case involving Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his son Deepinder till April 16.

In her complaint, Hooda's estranged daughter-in-law Dr Geeta Grewal alleged that Deepinder, his mother Asha and his aunt Saroj (wife of Hooda's elder brother) demanded more dowry from her.

Judicial Magistrate Ajay Aggarwal exempted the CM from personally appearing in the court.

However, Geeta objected to this. "On what grounds are they seeking exemption?" Geeta asked.

"Even I work and have taken time out for the case. If the CM is seeking exemption, what about the rest of the family? Why haven't any of them appeared in the court so far?"

Talking to journalists outside the court complex, Hoodas' counsel said they had requested the state to supply them with certain documents pertaining to the case.

This is the first time the case has come up for hearing after Hooda was sworn-in the chief minister.
