High court may fix date for Ayodhya verdict tomorrow

September 28, 2010 14:33 IST
With the Supreme Court rejecting the plea to defer the verdict on the Ayodhya title suit by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court, the Special Bench will fix a date to pronounce the verdict in the case.

Lawyers for one of the petitioners in the case, the Waqf Board, told Rediff.com that the Supreme Court's decision will be communicated to the high court based on which the date for the verdict will be fixed.

Once they get a certified copy of the order the lawyers will make it available to the Special Bench and a date for the pronouncement of orders could be

fixed on Wednesday itself.

Litigants to the title suit hope to communicate the Supreme Court order to the Special Bench by Tuesday evening and seek a date for pronouncement of the verdict.

They are awaiting a copy of the order following which they will make the same available to the Special Bench.

In addition to this, a communication from the Supreme Court about the verdict too will go to the high court.

Parties to the litigation will urge the high court to fix a date soon.

Lawyers say the matter has to be pronounced by 11 am on October 1 since Justice D V Sharma, one of the judges on the Special Bench, will retire at that time.

It is now, legal experts say, the prerogative of the Special Bench, which heard the title suit, to fix a date for the verdict.
