Hegde disapproves privilege motion against Puri, Bedi

August 29, 2011 22:33 IST

Justice Santosh Hegde on Monday disapproved the move to bring breach of privilege motion against Kiran Bedi and actor Om Puri for their controversial remarks about parliamentarians at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi saying such a motion should be used in exceptional cases.

"May be they have exceeded in mimicking...breach of privilege should be used in exceptional cases and the context should be understood," he told mediapersons.

Hegde, a key member of the Jan Lokpal bill drafting committee, refused to comment on the Swami Agnivesh video in circulation and its authenticity.

Earlier, delivering a speech, Hegde stressed the need for a pre-legislative debate before enacting any law. He said the Anna Hazare movement was within the framework of the Constitution and not against it.

"I am a small follower of Anna," he said, adding Anna's leadership was needed to fight many pro-people battles.
