Heavy rain leaves Mumbai water-logged

June 26, 2009 12:04 IST

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Friday leading to water logging in many low lying areas and disrupting traffic.

"Water logging was reported in central Mumbai's Byculla, Parel, Mahalaxmi, Mahim, Goregaon and Milan Subway in the western suburbs following the rains," a Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) official said.

Bhandup, Kurla and Mulund in eastern suburbs too witnessed heavy water logging, the official said.

Traffic movement too has slowed down, he said, adding a mini tanker carrying curd overturned on the western express highway near Vile Parle in the wee hours.

MCGM has geared up to ensure that water drains away fast in case the rainfall continues till the high tide in the afternoon.
