Heavy rains lashed the northern region on Thursday inundating low-lying areas, throwing vehicular traffic out of gear and disrupting power supply.
Due to torrential showers, the visibility at the Delhi airport dropped leading to disruption in flight operations. According to the Airport MeT Department, the airport area received 117 mm of rains between 2:35 pm and 3:40 pm.
"It was a cloudburst-like situation. Since 1959, this was the highest rainfall recorded at the IGI airport," said R K Jenamani, Director Airport Met Department.
The Ridge area in the national capital recorded 24.4 mm of rains between 5:30 pm yesterday and 8:30 am today followed by Ayanagar 15 mm.
The minimum temperature in the city settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal but down from Wednesday 27.2. The maximum was recorded at 34.2 degrees Celsius, down from Wednesday's 36.2.
The return of rains to Delhi after a gap of six days, when the city had recorded 96.1 mm of showers, brought back water logging and resultant traffic snarls on the road.
