'Headley befriended girl to gain access to Nariman House'

Last updated on: January 28, 2010 12:07 IST

Investigators have painstakingly pieced together how American terror suspect David Headley used different people to plan out the 26/11 terror attack.

Investigators say Daood Gilani alias David Headley had befriended a girl, who was working in Oberoi-Trident hotel, to gather information on Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg. According to investigators, Headley befriended the girl to gain access to Nariman house.

"The girl's employment at the Oberoi was a bonus. Headley was interested as Rabbi Holtzberg would frequent the girl's family-owned bakery at Colaba. Since the rabbi was particular about 'kosher' bread, he would buy bread only from this bakery. Headley used this opportunity to come to the bakery and befriend the rabbi," said an investigator.

He, however, added that the girl and her family were innocent and did not know anything about Headley's terror links.

The investigator believed that Headley used the girl to survey the Trident , the same way he used Film maker Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul to gain access to the gym at the Taj.

Meanwhile, a PTI copy says Headley had plans to kill the woman he had befriended. Read the report.
