The Gujarat Government has banned use of mobile phones in schools and colleges, as it was affecting the educational activities in the institutes, an official release said on Sunday.

A resolution to this effect was passed by the state education department yesterday, it said.

Education department officials said the ban has been imposed to curb excessive use of mobile phones which was affecting the educational activities in schools and colleges.

According to the resolution passed by the government, students up to class 12 will not be allowed to take mobile phones inside the school premises.

Even teachers, staff, parents and visitors will not be allowed to use mobile phones in places like class rooms, libraries and laboratories, it said.

In college campuses too, the use of mobile phone has been banned for students, staff, faculty, parents and visitors, the resolution said, adding that, however, possession of mobile phones will be permitted.

The state government has also requested the principals of schools and colleges to provide land-line phone facility within the campus for students and staff.
