A group of riot victims from the Gaekwad Haveli area on Friday alleged that the son of a Gujarat minister had instigated the police to fire at their dwellings, resulting in the death of at least four persons, during the post-Godhra carnage in Ahmedabad.

The victims made this allegation before mediapersons after an in-camera deposition before the two-man inquiry commission probing the post-Godhra riots.

Yasin Mandsourwala, a local leader, told reporters that they deposed in-camera out of fear of the police.

"There was no violence in our area at all. Despite this, an inspector named Sioni from the neighbouring Khadia police station came (to our area) along with the minister's son. After the latter pointed towards our houses, the policeman opened fire at random," Mandsourwala said.

Hanifa, another resident of the area, alleged the cops kicked her. When she questioned a policeman about the firing, he allegedly pointed a gun at her.

Others residents named two local Bajrang Dal leaders as leading rampaging mobs on March 26, 2002 and also mentioned about one policeman opening fire at random.
