The magisterial inquiry into the communal violence that shook Goa's twin towns, Sanvordem-Curchorem, has been completed and a report will be placed before the state government this week.

The report comes a year after the first-ever communal clashes in this tourist state that raged for three days beginning from March 3, 2006.

"I will place the report before state government this week," District Collector Nikhil Kumar, who conducted the probe, told PTI.

The state government had initiated inquiry into the incident, which saw the state's image as one with communal harmony tattered. The inquiry examined 250 witnesses besides conducting public hearings in affected area.

Riots erupted after a mob demolished a madrassa allegedly constructed illegally on the outskirt of Sanvordem-Curchorem. The violence, which continued for three days before the Central Industrial Security Force stepped in, saw property worth crores of rupees gutted.

In a crackdown following violence, Goa police arrested 50 people for various offences. The probe is expected to suggest remedial measure to avoid recurrence of such incidents.
