Despite a ban on corporal punishment, yet another student has fallen victim to the abuse with a 12-year-old girl being admitted to a hospital in Tamil Nadu after she was allegedly caned by her teacher for being 'slow' in copying questions from a text book.
According to the complaint lodged by the girl's mother, she found severe "caning marks" on her daughter's back when the uniform was removed after her return from the private school at Pennagaram, police said, adding a case has been registered.
On being questioned, the girl said the teacher, Suresh, who was conducting a test in social science wanted her to copy the questions from the text book into the notebook and answer them. As she was slow in doing it, he allegedly beat her up with a cane, police said.
The girl was admitted to hospital on Monday night.
When contacted, the school management declined to comment.
Chief Educational Officer S Amudhavalli said on receiving the complaint, a proper inquiry would be conducted and action initiated against the teacher.
The incident comes close on the heels of a 14-year-old boy of a private school in Perambalur district being allegedly forced to drink his urine by three teachers who were arrested on charge of beating him up.
