Mumbai police will not provide security to gangster-turned-politician, Arun Gawli, when he goes to Bangalore to undergo a lie detection test on Tuesday in connection with the alleged conspiracy hatched by starlet Preeti Jain with a former Gawli aide to kill film director Madhur Bhandarkar.

Cops are targetting Gawli: Preeti Jain

"His association with the underworld is known ad he is still an accused in two cases filed by us (Mumbai Police). There is no such precedence (to provide security to an accused), and we do not feel that there is need to provide him a security cover," a senior police official told PTI on Monday.

Through the test, police plans to get clues whether the Chinchpokli legislator had any role in the murder plot. Gawli had requested the Mumbai police for cover. However, senior Mumbai police officials told PTI that the request for protection had been rejected.

'Gawli is suspect in Jain case'

Sources said that rather than rejecting his demand for security, the Mumbai police was likely to ignore the issue and not reply to the written demand made by Gawli. Police suspect that Gawli was part of the conspiracy allegedly hatched by Jain to murder Bhandarkar with a former Gawli aide, Naresh Pardesi. Jain was arrested in July last year for allegedly hiring Pardesi to kill Bhandarkar, whom she had charged of sexually exploiting her.

HC rejects Gawli's petition on lie detection tests

Gawli, who was earlier asked by police to undergo all three scientific tests - narcoanalysis, P-300 brain mapping test and the lie detector test - moved Supreme Court, which stayed the first two tests, but allowed police to go ahead with the lie detection test.
