In a reorganisation in its top editorial team, renowned business magazine Fortune has named India-origin Stephanie Mehta as its new international editor.
Mehta has replaced Robert Friedman, who had been with the publication for more than seven years.
When asked about his departure, Friedman said he did not quit, but "was forced out in a reorganisation that involves the downsizing of Fortune's international editions."
An official spokesperson for the Fortune magazine, which is part of global media conglomerate CNN-Time Warner group, did not respond to the queries on the development.
"Stephanie Mehta has been appointed global editor, but her responsibilities will focus more on editing international stories for the US edition," Friedman said.
Friedman had joined Fortune in June 2000 and was overseeing the Europe and Asia editions of the global business magazine, besides coordinating the international coverage for the US edition.
Stephanie Mehta was previously a senior writer with Fortune covering telecom and media industries. She had joined Fortune from the Wall Street Journal, where she joined as a staff reported in 1994 and was promoted to deputy bureau chief in 1996.
Mehta received a master's degree in journalism and a bachelor's degree in English at Northwestern University.
