Former Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front terrorist Farooq Ahmed Dar, who served nearly  16 years in jail on charges of militancy, on Tuesday married a Kashmir Administrative Service officer.

Dar alias Bitta Karate entered into the wedlock with Assabah Arjumand Khan at his residence in Gurubazaar locality in Srinagar.

"A Nikah (an Islamic wedding contract) was performed on Tuesday," Dar's close aide Javed Ahmad Mir told mediapersons. Dar and Assabah knew each other for several years before deciding to get married.

A front-ranking commander of the JKLF in the early stages of militancy, Dar was arrested in 1990.

He was released on bail by a Terrorist and Disruptive Activities court in 2006 after spending 16 years in prison.

Assabah, who qualified the Kashmir Administrative Service examination in 2009, is currently posted as a trainee in the General Administrative Department.
