CBI court convicts eight in fodder scam

A special Central Bureau of Investigations court on Friday sentenced eight persons from one to five years' imprisonment in a case pertaining to the multi-crore fodder scam.

Judge A K Choudury, who convicted the eight on Thursday, passed the order in connection with the RC 4(a)/2001, pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of about Rs 4.62 lakh between 1995 and 1996.

They are - former Daltonganj district animal husbandry department official Dr Errick Kerketta, the then budget and accounts officer B B Prasad, former treasurer Dharamdev Prasad, Dr Prabhat Sinha, accountant Chandradev Mahto, official Vipin Bihar and suppliers Tripurari Mohan Prasad and Sushil Kumar.

All of them were sentenced for varying periods, ranging from one to five years, besides fine amount under various sections of IPC 468, 471, 420 and 477 (a).

After the pronouncement of the sentences, the counsel of Tripurari Mohan Prasad and Suhil Kumar moved a petition to treat this sentence concurrently with the previous case (RC 25a/96), orders for which had already been pronounced earlier. The court reserved its order on the prayer.
