Fodder scam: Lalu moves Supreme Court for bail

November 25, 2013 12:52 IST

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad, who is undergoing a five-year jail term after being convicted in a fodder scam case, moved his bail plea on Monday before the Supreme Court.
The matter will be heard on November 29, said a bench headed by Chief Justice P Satahsivam, before whom the matter was mentioned by senior advocate P H Parekh.

Lalu, whose Parliament membership was taken away after being convicted in the case, moved the apex court challenging the order of the Jharkhand high court, which had dismissed his bail plea.

Lalu, another former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra and 43 others were on September 30 convicted by a special Central Bureau of Investigation court in the fodder scam case involving a fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from the Chaibasa treasury during the Lalu-led RJD regime.

The CBI court had pronounced varying prison terms to the convicted persons on October 3.
