Delhi Police on Thursday registered an FIR against Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA Harish Rao and others for allegedly assaulting a senior official of the Andhra Pradesh Bhawan in New Delhi over an argument.
The FIR was filed based on a complaint filed by journalist-daughter of Chander Rao who alleged that her father was assaulted by Harish Rao and others inside his office in the Bhawan.
Sources said the journalist alleged in her complaint that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders also used "objectionable" words against her after assaulting her father.
Rao was allegedly beat up by the TRS leader after authorities refused to allow inside their premises the body of a 23-year-old who committed suicide yesterday upset over the delay in the formation of a separate state.
The case has been registered under sections dealing with causing hurt, obstructing a public servant and under the SC/ST Act, the sources said.
Television footage showed Harish Rao beating up Chander Rao after a long argument over why the authorities refused to allow the body of Adhireddy, whose body was found hanging from a tree near India Gate yesterday, inside the Andhra Pradesh Bhawan.
