Last updated on: April 18, 2012 03:47 IST

A First Information Report was on Tuesday registered against a senior police officer on charge of raping a middle-aged housewife after an internal enquiry concluded his role in the crime, police said.

The woman had approached top brass of the city police few weeks ago complaining against Assistant Police Commissioner Anil Mahabole that he had raped and blackmailed  her for the past eight months, they said.

According to police, the woman alleged that the ACP, who is presently posted in a side branch, had visited her residence eight months ago and allegedly offered her sweets and after consuming which she fell unconscious.

When she regained consciousness, the ACP allegedly showed her an MMS on his cell phone, in which she was in a compromising position.

She alleged that the ACP kept blackmailing her, threatening to make the MMS public and repeatedly raped her. Unable to cope up with the torture, she finally approached the higher ups in the department last week, police said, adding that subsequently an enquiry was ordered.

As the enquiry found his role in the crime, an FIR was registered against him, police said.

Mahabole had earlier been questioned in connection with senior journalist J Dey's murder case in June last year suspecting his role in the killing as Dey had written several articles mentioning his links with the D-Company, the gang operated by Dawood Ibrahim.
