A young girl was brutally beaten to death, while her boyfriend is struggling for survival after being attacked in the name of 'family honour' in Soran village of Muzaffarnagar district near Lucknow.
According to an official spokesman of the state Home department, "Identified as Hamza and Tahira, the young couple was in love and since their families were against their marriage, they decided to elope. However, they were intercepted by the girl's relatives, who forcibly brought them back to their native village."
A first information report that was lodged by a passer-by stated that 'both were beaten black and blue for defying the families will and were abandoned on the outskirts of the village'.
The passer-by reported the matter to the police, following which the two were picked up and rushed to Subharti Hospital in Meerut. While Tahira succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital, Hamza was still in a critical condition.
Significantly, however, the police have failed to make any arrests so far.
