One worker was killed and three others were injured in an explosion in a private detonators and explosives factory in Hyderabad on Tuesday afternoon.

Giving details of the incident, Kukatpally police said the mishap occurred in the Hyderabad works of IDL division of Gulf Oil Corporation around 12.40 PM.

A worker was trying to open a valve that got stuck on a pipeline in the factory. When he applied some force, the valve broke and the explosive material came off with pressure, causing a minor explosion.

While the worker died on the spot, three of his colleagues sustained burn injuries. The injured persons were shifted to Remedy hospital where they were recovering, Kukatpally circle inspector Radhakrishna said.
