Ex-CJI's brother resigns from Kerala HC

K G Bhaskaran, younger brother of former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan, who was facing allegations of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income, on Friday resigned as special government pleader in the Kerala high court.

The resignation is on health grounds.

The resignation letter was sent through a special messenger to the Advocate General C P Sudhakara Prasad, a short while ago, high court sources said.

The Advocate General had last week has asked Bhaskaran either to demit office or to go on leave following allegations of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Bhaskaran was appointed special government pleader to defend cases against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Media reports had stated that Bhaskaram had purchased about 60 acres of land in Dindigul in Tamil Nadu in 2005-06 in the name of his wife, 4 children and K G Praveen, a close relative of justice Balakrishnan and had built a farmhouse there.

There were also reports that Bhaskaran and his wife Ratnaamma, a retired judicial magistrate were building a palatial house in Puthen Kurushu in Ernakulam district and that he had spent over Rs 1 crore to build the huge house.

Bhaskaran had said the media reports were 'exaggerated'.

Justice Balakrishna's son-in law P V Sreenijan, an advoacte and former youth congress state vice president, who is also in thick of controversy over allegations of amassing of properties, had also resinged from the youth congress after an explanation was sought from him.

Sreenijan had later clarified that he and his wife K G Sony had purchased the properties out of their income as lawyers and that he was prepared to face any enquiry.

Allegations of amassment of wealth have also been levelled against Justice Balakrishanan's second son-in-law Benny, who is also an advocate.

Former Supreme Court judge Justice V R Krishna Iyer has demanded a judicial probe into the allegations against KGB's family members.
