Officials at the Rajgir Wildlife Sanctuary in Bihar’s Nalanda district are groping in the dark over the cause of the death of 11 deer in the last 48 hours.

"Some forest guards found bodies of three deer on Sunday followed by eight on Monday in the sanctuary,” a forest official said on Tuesday.

Amrendra Kumar, a forest

official in Nalanda, said that a departmental inquiry is on into the matter.

When contacted, Additional Principal Conservator and Chief Wildlife Warden of Bihar B A Khan confirmed the death of only five deer.

“I have information on the death of five deer. I do not know if some more have died there,” he said, adding, “A team of experts, including veterinary doctors, would visit Rajgir to study the cause of their death.”
