8-yr-old Kashmiri hurt in grenade blast dies

An eight-year-old girl, who was critically injured in Sunday's grenade blast in the highway town of Bejibehara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, succumbed to her wounds on Monday.

In all, over a dozen people were injured in the explosion in the main market in Bejibehara town located on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

A police spokesman in Srinagar said the girl identified as Arifa had suffered multiple splinter injuries in the grenade blast.

Terrorists had targeted a passing army convoy in the town by hurling the grenade, which, however, missed the target and fell on the road and exploded underneath a car.

The other injured are being treated in various hospitals and condition of one more injured is stated to be serious.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday reiterated 'his categorical direction for exhibiting highest degree of restraint and use of minimal force while dealing with law and order situation'.

"You should ensure that no casualty or grievous injury takes place while dealing with law and order problem," he told police authorities.   

The chief minister took stock of the general law and order situation and progress on development works in the three districts of Budgam, Baramulla and Pulwama through video-conferencing from winter capital Jammu on Monday morning.
