5.8 earthquake shakes Kashmir

An earthquake measuring 5.6 to 5.8 on the Richter Scale has been reported in Kashmir.

Although a moderate intensity earthquake rocked the Valley, it was not, however, felt by majority of the people in Srinagar.

 

The local MET office said that the tremor which occurred at 11.36 am.

 

"Its epicentre was on the Jammu and Kashmir-Pakistan-Gilgat border,"

the director of the local MET office Sonam Lotus said.

 

However, there was no report of any damage to life and property.

 

"I came to know that the tremor had occurred only on the TV channels. I and my other friends who were inside my shop didn't feel it," said Mehraj-ud-Din, a shopkeeper in Srinagar.

 

Some shopkeepers in Srinagar said they had felt the tremor.
