Dr Singh on 2-day visit to Odisha today

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to arrive in Odisha on Monday to attend the 99th Indian Science Congress on January 3, official sources said.

"The Prime Minister will arrive in Bhubaneswar in the evening hours and spend the night at Raj Bhavan. On Tuesday, the PM is scheduled to inaugurate the Indian Science Congress," a senior home department official said.

Besides attending the ISC meet being organised jointly by NISER, Bhubaneswar and KIIT University, Dr Singh is also likely to visit the state Congress headquarters on Tuesday before leaving for New Delhi, the official said.

About 15,000 personalities from the science fraternity are expected to attend the Congress, whose focal theme is 'Science and Technology for Inclusive Innovation-Role of Women'.

Dr Singh's scheduled visit to Congress Bhavan here, the second Prime Minister after Indira Gandhi to visit the state party headquarters, have triggered enthusiasm among party workers, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik said.
