Don't support either Congress or BJP: SP

September 13, 2012 15:52 IST

Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday said that his political outfit does not support the ruling UPA government at the Centre and neither does it support the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.

"Let me make it clear, the Samajwadi Party does not support the UPA government. It only props up the Congress when it sees the part weakening and there is a threat of communal forces taking advantage of that," Yadav said.

Mulayam Singh Yadav has indicated it is getting ready to replace the Congress, which is being ''ridden'' with scams and spread its influence all over the country.

"A Third Front is always formed after the polls based on the prevailing conditions at that particular point of time. The situation is such there may be elections earlier than 2014, but we cannot be sure about it," he added.

As of now Mulayam sees both the Congress Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), becoming weaker, a situation in which he finds an increase in the role of the Samajwadi Party.

"The two major national parties of the country are busy waging a war of words between themselves. The Samajwadi Party's role has now increased, as the two major national parties have now become incompetent," said Yadav.

"So, the Samajwadi Party will work in the whole country now in an organised manner," he added.

Yadav also lauded West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and expressed keenness to take her into full confidence prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"I have always had very good relations with Mamataji and I respect her style of working," he added.

It may be recalled that Yadav and Banerjee appeared to be on the same side of the coin prior to the elections for the post of President of India. Yadav later changed his stance and embarrassed Banerjee.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav met Banerjee in Kolkata earlier in the day in an effort to forge good ties between the Samajwadi Party and the Trinamool Congress.

Yadav stated that the Samajwadi Party's national executive at it meeting in Kolkata decided to strengthen the organisation of the party in the whole country.

"The Samajwadi Party is strong in many districts of the country, but we decided to strengthen the party further in other areas of the country," he added.

Mulayam Singh Yadav had earlier on Wednesday alleged that the Congress Party''s reputation has diminished for it is riddled with scams and it was high time for his party to take charge.

He said that the ruling Congress Party is at the moment battling with corruption and has lost the trust of the common man of this country.

"At the centre, there are so many scams. One minister has given coal blocks to his relatives.  The day another man became coal minister, he gave coal to relatives. The reputation of the Congress has suffered," said Yadav.

"The BJP also cannot progress any more.  So who will take charge?  The Samajwadi Party has that responsibility," he added, while emphasizing that the Samajwadi Party should not confine itself to Uttar Pradesh, but spread across India.
