DMK takes on JPC chief: 'NO confidence in 2G report'

September 24, 2013 14:13 IST

In a strongly-worded letter to Joint Parliamentary Committee chief P C Chacko, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader T R Baalu has said the committee's report on the 2G scam and the Congress leader's attempts to rush for its passage did not exactly inspire confidence.

The letter comes in the wake of DMK chief Karunanidhi instructing Baalu to protest the JPC’s report.

Baalu has taken exception to Chacko’s observation -- about not finding any new material in the documents referred to in an earlier letter by the DMK leader -- and questioned how the JPC chief got access to the documents as they were in the custody of a special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Baalu also urged Chacko and the JPC to give DMK leader and 2G scam prime accused A Raja a chance to depose before the committee to present his point of view.

Baalu noted that whenever Raja made a request to depose before the committee, his plea was declined on the grounds of paucity of time. But the term of the JPC kept on getting extended, alleged Baalu in his letter, for "reasons best known" to Chacko.
