A motorist, who witnessed the Paris car crash in which Princess Diana was killed alongside her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed ten years back, has claimed that he saw a 'major white flash' moments before the tragedy.
Francois Levistre, who was driving in front of Diana's Mercedes through the Alma tunnel, on Monday told the Princess of Wales' inquest that he had seen a motorbike overtaking the car moments before it crashed into a concrete pillar.
Speaking to the jury via video link, Levistre said he then saw in his rear-view mirror the bright light flashed at the couple's car.
"I realised there was this major white flash of the motorbike in front of the Mercedes, in front of the car."
Other witnesses have claimed that they had seen a large dark car bumping the Mercedes as it entered the tunnel at a 'crazy' speed just before the fatal crash in 1997.
Dodi's father Mohammed Al-Fayed had already alleged that Diana and his son were murdered by British secret service in an Establishment plot ordered by Prince Philip.
The Harrods boss said that MI6 agents had blinded the Mercedes' driver Henri Paul with a flash gun and it was 'part of the conspiracy to make the crash look like an accident.'
However, French authorities and former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Stevens, who investigated the crash on behalf of Coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker, have dismissed this theory.
They have also expressed doubts whether Levistre, the only eyewitness who speaks of a 'big white flash' in the tunnel, could have seen the detail he claimed while driving at speeds of up to 60 mph.
Levistre gave several different accounts of the incident, he had also served time in prison for possessing an illegal weapon and was held in connection with an alleged plot to sell a child, the jury heard.
