DG prisons reviews security of Jammu jail

A week after a Pakistani prisoner was fatally attacked by a fellow inmate inside the Kotbalwal jail in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir director general prisons Saturday visited the high security jail.

According to an official statement, director general prisons, K Rajendra Kumar accompanied by senior police and jail officials visited the Kotbalwal jail to review the security and interact with inmates of the prison.

“He held detailed discussions regarding the problems faced by local as well as foreign prisoners including Pakistani prisoners and inquired their welfare. He assured the inmates that all necessary assistance as covered under jail manual shall be provided to them,” the statement said.

It said the director general prisons also ‘inspected almost all the barracks and administrative block of  Kotbalwal  Jail and passed on the directions to the concerned officers of jail department to remain extra vigilant and have close watch on the activities of the jail inmates in future in order to avoid any untoward incident inside jail premises’. 

After remaining in deep coma for several days, the Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah died in a hospital in Chandigarh on Wednesday.
