Election for the post of Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker will take place on Wednesday and the nomination of candidate is slated for Tuesday.

As per a notification issued by the Lok Sabha on Monday, notices of motions for the election of deputy Speaker can be given before noon on Tuesday.

Reports had it that All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader M Thambidurai is the likely choice of NDA for the post. The move to give the post to AIADMK is seen as a gesture towards Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha and also a bid to split the opposition ranks.

Thambidurai is the leader of AIADMK in the House. He was deputy Speaker from 1985 to 1989.

The notification from the Lok Sabha said any member may give notice in writing to the secretary-general of a motion that another member be chosen as the deputy Speaker of the House.

The notice shall be seconded by a third member and accompanied by a statement by the member whose name is proposed that the member proposed is willing to serve as deputy Speaker, if elected.

No member shall propose one's own name or second a motion proposing the member's own name.

Similarly, no member can propose or second more than one motion.

The motions which have been moved and duly seconded shall be put one by one in the order in which they have been moved, and decided, if necessary, by division, the notification issued by Lok Sabha Secretary General P K Grovers said.
