In an attempt to ensure that the violent agitation by Gurjars in Rajasthan does spread to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the Union Home Ministry on Wednesday issued advisories to these states as also to Haryana asking them to take adequate security measures.

Sensitising these states to take steps to maintain law and order, the MHA also advised them to hold talks with leaders of different sections of the society for maintaining peace, an MHA spokesman said.

Since both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have sizeable Gurjar population in certain pockets, the Home Ministry was closely monitoring the situation in these states along with that in Haryana, where 14 persons have been killed in violence unleashed by the Gurjars demanding Schedule Tribe status.

Sources in the security establishment said that fresh reinforcement of para-military force personnel has been rushed to Haryana. The MHA has already despatched over 2000 personnel of central forces and had assured the state yesterday that some more forces would be sent when Rajasthan had made a demand for 1500 more personnel.

Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta said whatever steps were needed to restore peace in Rajasthan immediately were being taken and added that a constant watch was being maintained on the situation.
