Delhi corporator's murder: Two UP cops held

December 12, 2002 20:37 IST

More than three months after the abduction-and-murder of Delhi corporator Atma Ram Gupta, the Delhi police have arrested two Uttar Pradesh police personnel allegedly instrumental in disposing off the body.

Sub-Inspector Sripal Singh Raghav and Head Constable Satendar were arrested near the Vijay Nagar police station in Ghaziabad on Wednesday night during a raid by a Delhi police team, police said.

The raid was conducted on the basis of a statement by Subhash, a witness in the case, before a metropolitan magistrate alleging that Raghav and Satendar had disposed off the Congress corporator's body in the company of their colleague constable Rakesh and key accused Roshan Pradhan, police said.

Pradhan, who had allegedly taken Rs 60,000 from another Congress corporator Sharda Jain for killing Gupta, is already in police custody.

Gupta was abducted on August 24 and his body was found a week later in a canal near Bulandshahar in UP. He had been shot dead.

Police have launched a hunt for Rakesh, who is absconding.
