Crime Branch officials on Thursday said Iqbal Attarwala, an alleged associate of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim who was extradited from Dubai, will help in investigating the underworld-Bollywood nexus.

Attarwala arrived in Mumbai on Thursday after authorities in Dubai deported him.

Official sources said that any star linked with Attarwala will be under the crime branch scanner.

"His company Showblitz India organised a lots shows both in the country and abroad. Some were successful and some were flops. The police have said that they will investigate if the underworld was involved in these shows," his lawyer Sushan Kunjuraman, said.

While the police took him into custody at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Kunjuraman said, "This is an illegal detention and I will be complaining against the same. He had come from Dubai to surrender but was taken into custody at the airport itself."

Attarwala's son was waiting for him at the airport.

Wanted in several cases of murder and kidnapping, Attarwala went to the Middle East in 2004 after he was shown as a wanted accused in a land grabbing case here. He also has a case of extortion and cheating registered against him.

A plot measuring over 2,000 square feet owned by one Ranchodbhai Patel in suburban Malad was allegedly grabbed by Attarwala along with over 30 armed accomplices.

They allegedly removed Patel's security, installed their own men and then submitted some bogus documents claiming right over the property.

The case is being investigated by the Mumbai police which has already arrested six persons in connection of the case.
