CRPF convoy attacked in Shopian, 9 injured

Amid the massive encounter underway in Pampore, a Central Reserve Police Force convoy on Tuesday suffered a grenade attack in which two jawans and seven civilians were injured in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Terrorists hurled the grenade at the CRPF personnel in Shopian town at around 11.40 am, resulting in injuries, a police official said.

He said the injured have been taken to Shopian district hospital even as security forces have launched a search operation to track down the terrosists.

Meanwhile, security forces launched a fresh offensive on Tuesday morning to flush out the terrorists who are holed up inside a government building in Pampore area since Monday.

The area around the Entrepreneurship Development Institute premises on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been cordoned off and exchange of fire was going on.

Two to three terrorists who had entered the EDI complexes in the wee hours yesterday and fired upon the security forces triggering an encounter.

An army jawan and a policeman were injured in the operation.

Security forces on Monday used mortar shells, light machine guns and other small arms to flush out the terrorists but so far have not been successful.
