Kannur district in Kerala, which has recently witnessed double murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha workers in broad daylight, is tense following clashes between the Communist Party of India-Marxist and the Muslim League workers.
The CPI-M, which is already in the back foot for its alleged role in the twin murders at New Mahe near Thalassery -- the constituency of the state home minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan -- is now further cornered following the clashes in which several Muslim League workers were injured and many houses, shops and establishments were looted by miscreants.
More than ten Muslim League workers and four CPI-M men are injured and admitted to various hospitals, police sources told rediff.com.
The recent all-party peace meeting called by the district administration turned into a farce as the two major aggrieved parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party-RSS and the Muslim League-Congress boycotting the meet.
Ironically, the CPI-M-led Left Democratic Front has been trying to get into the good books of the Hindu community and political pundits are surprised at the sudden provocation by the CPI-M cadres in Thalassery allegedly attacking and killing RSS workers.
Attacks on the Muslim League workers in Taliparamba and surrounding areas have further tarnished the image of the CPI-M.
