The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the city police on the basis of a contempt petition filed by advocate Monika Arora. The petition alleges that the Delhi police has failed to take action against those who put posters at public places for the ongoing Delhi University Students' Union elections. Arora is a former office bearer of the DUSU.
Last year, the high court had directed the police to take action against those who deface public places by putting posters.
A division bench headed by Justice T S Thakur directed the police to file their reply within four weeks. The bench also asked the Delhi police to state the actions taken by them to comply with the court's order.
However, the bench refused to issue a notice to Delhi University Vice-Chancellor and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, stating that the court had not given any directions to them last year.
"Delhi University is not violating the order. Instead, it is suffering because of these activities," said Justice Thakur.
