Congress MP loyal to YSR Cong chief Jagan resigns

In an embarrassment for the Congress, a party MP from Andhra Pradesh loyal to YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday resigned from the Lok Sabha.

Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy resigned to protest the mention of former Andhra Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy name in the Central Bureau of Investigation's FIR in a case related to the Kadapa member of Parliament.

Reddy, a member of Parliament from Nellore in coastal Andhra region met Speaker Meira Kumar on Wednesday morning and submitted his resignation. Reddy, who has been siding with Jaganmohan Reddy ever since he quit the Congress and launched his own outfit, said he was upset over the manner in which late YSR and his son were being treated by the party.

"There are several reasons for my resignation. One is the way Jaganmohan Reddy is being treated by the Centre and the way Andhra Pradesh as a state is being treated," he said after submitting his resignation.

Reddy's resignation comes close on the heels of 24 Congress members of legislative assembly and two Telugu Desam Party rebel legislators resigning over the same issue.

The ruling Congress MLAs resigned both from the assembly and the primary membership of the party over the issue and had faxed the resignation letters to Andhra Pradesh Conress Commitee headquarters on Monday.
