Cong MPs from Telangana welcome Centre's announcement

December 28, 2012 17:53 IST

Congress MPs from Telangana region on Friday welcomed the Centre's announcement that a decision on the contentious issue would be taken in a month, claiming that this shows a separate state would become a reality soon.

Five MPs, who have been openly defying the party on the issue, said the Congress party has spoken in favour of creation of a separate state at the meeting chaired by Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

"Telangana will be a reality in some time. The Centre will deliver on its promise soon," Nizamabad MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi told reporters.

Another MP Ponnam Prabhakar said the dream of a separate state would be realised in a very short period.

The MPs claimed that barring the YSR Congress party, all parties spoke in favour of a separate Telangana state.

"YSR Congress has shown its true colours," Yaskhi said, asking people of Telangana to boycott yatras by YSR Congress leaders in the region.

Yaskhi and Prabhakar also hailed the decision of TDP to support the demand for carving out a separate state of Telangana.
