A complaint has been lodged with police against a woman family member of Union Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader M Karunanidhi's son M K Alagiri alleging that a temple property in Madurai had been illegally acquired by her.
Police said the complainant alleged that the land belonging to the temple trust had been purchased by the family member of Alagiri for constructing an office building but refused to give details, saying it was being investigated.
The complaint lodged on Sunday said the land is situated near the central bus stand at Mattuthavani and the temple was in Uthangudi, about 1 km from there.
The complaint comes against the backdrop of crackdown on land grabbing launched by the Jayalalithaa Government which in most cases involve DMK men.
The government's action has come in for attack from the DMK which dubbed it as political vendetta. Alagiri had on Sunday lashed out at a section of media for publishing "false" reports about his family's wealth to tarnish his image and said he would initiate legal action against it.
In a statement in Chennai, the Madurai-based Union Minister said all the properties of his family members were legally acquired and had been accounted.
"All the properties acquired by my family members were bought through legal transactions and they have been properly accounted," he said.
He said some publications from Tamil Nadu had been carrying a series of "false news" particularly about his wife and children and the same had been republished by some others.
"I consider this as a conspiracy to tarnish my reputation. I propose to take legal action against the weekly magazines and other media which published such defamatory false news against my family members," Alagiri, DMK South Zone Organising Secretary, said.
